Ethiopian Airlines is set to open new flights to China as a result of the surging market in China.
The flights will use the capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa to access Africa or as a gateway to Africa according to the Chief executive officer of Ethiopian Airlines Mesfin Tasew.
The CEO said that China is a very important market for Ethiopian Airlines, adding that they have been in connection with China for the past 50 years and hence would like to further enlarge their cooperation with China by adding more frequencies and flying to more destinations.
Tasew also noted that Ethiopian Airlines sees China as an engine for its growth in the future noting the growth in the number of investors flying from China to Africa and vice versa.
Ethiopian Airlines now flies to only five destinations in China, that is Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Hong Kong.
28 flights that fly to China are for passengers while 24 of them are for cargo, totaling 52 flights.
As a result of the huge success of Ethiopian Airlines during the COVID-19 pandemic in transporting medicines and other medical goods to Africa, the airlines have witnessed tremendous growth since January this year according to Tasew.
