According to the data given by Google, it shows that AI searches have increased in Kenya by 270 percent since 2022 and 400 percent over the last five years.
According to the Californian-based corporation, their report shows that careers, online businesses from homes, and a way to gain new certifications mostly in digital skills were the topmost searches in the country.
The search increase reports come barely after the internet firm March and July 2023 announced its introduction of conversational AI service Bard in English and Swahili.
According to Google East Africa Country Director Agnes Gathaiya, it’s great to see people in Kenya showing such keen interest in the transformational tech that is AI.
She added that people globally and in Africa are reaping the benefits of responsibly developed AI-based tools daily. She also noted that the speed of technological advancement is accelerating and hence, as it is exhilarating to have such breakthroughs, it’s important that they get it right in Kenya.
The data shows that searches for courses in virtual assistance have increased by 450 percent whereas data analysis has increased by 200 percent, digital marketing increased by 200 percent as well and cyber security increased by 100 percent significantly in 2023.
Agnes also noted that they are committed to working boldly, responsibly, and together with Kenya to maximize the potential of AI, as well as minimize its abuse.
She added that the trends released also show that people in Kenya are increasingly interested in building their careers and learning new skills.
