LinkedIn introduces AI features.
  • LinkedIn is a business and employment-focused social media platform owned by Microsoft.
  • The company, founded in 2003, has over 950 million users worldwide.
  • The platform offers companies ways to do marketing and lead generation while offering recruitment tools for businesses.

LinkedIn  has been integrating artificial intelligence features in its platform to try and keep up in the AI race.

The company unveiled major updates on Tuesday (Oct 3) powered by AI including its Recruiter talent sourcing tool, Linkedin Learning coach and Accelerate, a new AI-powered tool for marketing campaigns.

The social network owned by Microsoft has been tapping technology from OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, which is 49% owned by Microsoft to quickly develop AI-powered features targeted at recruiters, marketers and enterprise sales people.

LinkedIn largely makes revenue by charging recruiters and sales and marketing professionals who want to use its platform to get to their target audience. That partly explains why the new features are heavily skewed towards the paying demographic for the social network rather than the vast majority who use it for free.

New data from the networking platform show that the mention of either AI or generative AI has more than doubled globally between July 2021 and July 2023 as artificial intelligence is booming in no small part to the mainstream use of OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT.
